Candidate Privacy Notice

This notice provides you with information about the personal data we collect about you and how we use these data in the context of our recruitment process (whether or not via the online recruitment tool) (the "Recruitment ").

It applies as from 25 May 2018.

Who we are

Shurgard Europe VOF (“Shurgard” or “we”) is a company having its registered office at Breedveld 29, 1702 Dilbeek, Belgium and registered in the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises under registration number 0884.371.665.

As data controller, we respect your right to privacy and will only process personal information you provide to us in accordance with applicable data protection laws and as described in this notice. (Applicable data protection laws include (i) the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation 2016/679) (“GDPR”); and (ii) all other existing or new applicable laws relating to or impacting on the processing of information of a living person and privacy).

The personal information we collect about you

As part of the Recruitment (including when you submit personal information to us through our online recruitment tool), we may collect the following information from you:

  • your name;
  • your age and gender;
  • your postal address;
  • your phone and e-mail details;
  • your occupation and employment;
  • employment preferences and competencies;
  • your salary and expectations
  • your CV and its contents.

How we may store and use your information

We or third party data processors acting on our behalf (mainly service providers under contract with us to support recruitment process, such as technology services) may collect, store and use your personal information listed above for the following purposes:

  • to make our recruitment tool available to you and to respond to your candidacy for a job posting and complete any recruitment procedure you initiate with us ;
  • where you have given us your explicit consent, to maintain your personal data and to contact you regarding future job opportunities which we think may be of interest to you.

We will not sell, rent or otherwise disclose your personal information to any other third party.
However, if a third party acquires all (or substantially all) of our business and/or assets, we may disclose your personal information to that third party in connection with the acquisition. We may also disclose your personal information where we are required to do so by applicable law, by a governmental body or by a law enforcement agency.

Retention period

In accordance with the principles set out below, we will delete personal data once it is no longer required to fulfil the purposes outlined in this notice, unless their retention would remain required for other fundamental purposes, including but not limited to complying with our legal obligations, handling claims and resolving disputes.

  • Candidates who become Shurgard employees: their personal data will be maintained throughout the duration of the employment and for any period thereafter as legally required or permitted by applicable law;
  • Candidates that are not retained for a specific job posting, and who have not consented to their personal data being stored for future job opportunities: their personal data will be deleted once the application process for the relevant job posting will have been completed;
  • Candidates that are not retained for a specific job posting, but who have consented to their personal data being stored for future job opportunities: their personal data will be retained for a period of 2 years following that candidate's first application on this Recruitment Tool

International transfers

We do not transfer personal information that we collect from you during the Recruitment to countries that are outside of the European Economic Area.

Security

Shurgard has taken appropriate technical and organisational measures to safeguard the personal information that you provide us with, against unauthorized or unlawful processing and against accidental destruction, loss or damage.

Your rights

You have the following rights:

  1. the right to access to personal information that we hold about you;
  2. the right to ask us to update and correct any out-of-date or incorrect personal information that we hold about you free of charge;
  3. where the processing is based on your consent, the right to withdraw consent at any given time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal;
  4. the right to erasure where the conditions of article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") have been met;
  5. the right to restriction of processing where the conditions of article 18 of the GDPR have been met;
  6. the right to data portability insofar the conditions of article 20 GDPR apply to you;
  7. the right to object to processing of personal data concerning you, insofar applicable under article 21 GDPR;
  8. the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; and
  9. the right to opt out, at first request and free of charge, of any direct marketing communications that we with your consent may send you.
